 黄鹏鹏 特邀研究员

Distinguished Research Fellow
Institute of Cellular and Organismic Biology,Academia Sinica

Dr. Pung-Pung Hwang is a distinguished Research Fellow at Institute of Cellular and Organismic Biology (ICOB), Academia Sinica. He finished his B.S. study in Dept. of Zoology, Taiwan University in 1976 and received his PhD in Tokyo University. Dr. Hwang started his research career in 1984 and currently is a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Institute of Cellular and Organismic (ICOB), Academia Sinica. Dr. Hwang had severed as Vice Director and Director of the institute. He has also devoted himself to the research communities as the President of the Ichthyological Society of Taiwan, Executive Director of Taiwan Fishery Society, Examiner Board Member of the Ministry of Examination, the Coordinator of Review Board of the Governmental Program for Technology Development, Symposium Organizer of International Congress on the Biology of Fish since 2010, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Physiology (2016-), Editorial Board members for other 6 international journals, and external reviewers for different funding agencies including NSF, ANR, NSERC, BBSRC, and UGC (HK), etc.

Dr. Hwang’s major contribution is to comprehensively reshape our understanding of osmoregulation, a fundamental issue in fish physiology. Dr. Hwang’s group proposed a novel model of fish osmoregulation by identifying the ion transporters and enzymes responsible for absorption/excretion of various ions, acid-base regulation and ammonia excretion, elucidating mechanisms of these transport pathways working and interacting under changing environment, and hormonal control of these transport pathways. The impact of Dr. Hwang’s work in osmoregulation areas are reflected by 11 invited review articles and 4 book chapters (2 in Fish Physiology serial, the “gold standards” in the fields; another one is in “The Physiology of Fishes: 4th Edition” of CRC Press, one of the most popular text books in fish physiology). His over 150 publications have earned 7961 citations with h-index 51 and i10 index 140.
