Prof. Anderson O. L. Wong obtained his BSc (1986) & MPhil degree (1990) in HKU (HK) and acquired his PhD (1993) in University of Alberta (Canada) under the supervision of Prof. R.E. Peter. After that, he worked as a postdoc in University of Toronto (Canada) with the support of Restracom Fellowship and as an adjunct researcher in National Institute of Child Health & Development, NIH (USA). He joined the Department of Zoology, University of Hong Kong in 1996 as an assistant professor, promoted to associate professor in 2003, and is now the full professor of the Endocrinology division, School of Biological Sciences (since 2010).
Prof Anderson O. L. Wong is a comparative endocrinologist by training with focus on fish models. His research areas focus on (i) the novel regulators of the hypothalamo-pituitary axis, (ii) signal transduction and autocrine/paracrine control of pituitary hormones, and (iii) functional crosstalk between feeding and pituitary signals in representative species of the carp family. After joining University of Hong Kong, he has obtained ´20 GRF/ CERG, HMRF & NSFC/RGC grants (as PI) and ´2 National 973 Basic Research Programs (as Co-I) and published in a good nunmber of high ranking journals in the field of endocrinology, including Endocrinology, Mol Endocrinology, Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab, J Endocrinology and Mol Cell Endocrinol. Besides serving as the guest editor/ editorial broad member for 12 journals, including Frontiers of Endocrinology, Gen Comp Endocrinol and Austin Journal of Endocrinology & Diabetes, Prof Wong was the council member of the Asia & Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology (2009-2012) and Hong Kong Society of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Reproduction (2007-2010) and invited to serve as the reviewer/overseas assessor for grant application and research programs submitted to RGC (HK), NSERC (Canada) and Hungarian Sci Res Fund (Hungary). He was also involved in organizing symposium for various meetings, including the 16th International Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (2009), 2nd International Symposium for Fish Growth and Reproduction (2009), 6th Intercongress Symposium of the Asia & Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology (2010), 7th International Symposium on Fish Endocrinology (2012) and 8th Congress of Asia & Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology (2016).
