Prof. Dr. Songlin Chen, Director of Lab for Aquatic Biotechnology and Genomics in Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fisheries Science (CAFS),Deputy director of Laboratory for Marine Fisheries Science and Food Production Processes, Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology, Chief Scientist on Aquaculture Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS); Director in Aquaculture Biotechnology Branch, China Society of Fisheries. He is a Member of Editorial Committee of Scientific Reports and Marine Biotechnology. His major research interests are involved in genomics, genomic resource exploration, sex control, molecular breeding, cell culture, and sperm and embryo cryopreservation in fish. He and his colleagues have completed the whole genome fine maps of half-smooth tongue sole and Japanese flounder, and contributed to revealing the sex chromosome evolution and benthic adaptation mechanism, discovered male determination gene (dmrt1) in Chinese tongue sole, and developed the high-ratio female breeding technology for half-smooth tongue sole. He cultivated two new breeds of Japanese flounder. In addition, his and his colleagues had constructed sperm banks for 20 fish species, and established 23 marine fish cell lines. He has published 4 monographs including <<Fish Genomics and Genome Breeding technology>> and <<Fish sex control and Breeding by cell engineering>>. He published over 320 research papers, including two papers in Nature Genetics and one in Genome Research. He has won 2 second prizes of State Technological Invention Award (1) and 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award(2).
