Dr. Guan is a professor at Department of Developmental Biology, College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, Shanghai Ocean University. Her research is focusing on sex differentiation using medaka as a model. She received her B.Sc degree from Shanghai Medical University, her M.Sc from the University of Tokyo, and her PhD from Graduate School, National Institute for Basic Biology (NIBB)in Japan. She was a postdoctoral researcher at NIBB and CREST, and a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)visiting scientist collaborated with Prof Yunhan Hong at Department of Developmental Biology of Science, National University of Singapore. She has conducted research in reproduction, stem cells and genetic manipulation in fish since graduate school. She has published over 30 research articles in peer-reviewed journals including PNAS, DNA research, Marine Biotechnology and Scientific Reports with a top citation over 134. Recent discoveries include elucidation of molecular mechanisms of gsdf and other TGF-beta signals in controlling gametogenesis and ferminization in medaka, which have been published in several manuscripts in Mechanisms of Development and Science Bulletin.
