Dr. Weiqun Lu, Ph.D., is a Professor, Chair of Physiology Department at Shanghai Ocean University in China, Deputy Director of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, chairman for Research and Education Board of Biotechnology Division, Coordinator of CAFnet, Partner of ASEM Aquaculture Platform. He received his B.Sc. in Food Science at Northeast Agricultural University, P.R. China; Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. He was a research associate, mentored by Prof. Hew Rees, at the Department of Biological Sciences, at the University of Liverpool. He accepted a second research associate, mentored by Prof. Richard Balment, at the Department of Biological Sciences, the University of Manchester. He was later appointed Research Scientist, mentored by Prof. Richard Balment, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, the University of Manchester.
Dr. Weiqun Lu lifetime interest has been focused on neuro-endocrine control of the environmental adaptability in marine organism. He pioneered the development of fish models to understand the physiology and behavior of aquatic animal’s adaptation. He has been involved in fish and shellfish reproduction, stress physiology and welfare management R&D in UK and China since 1998. His work has resulted in well-over 100 peer reviewed papers. He is interested in research and innovation to favour the development of sustainable aquaculture.
