Dr. Kazuyoshi Tsutsui is a professor of Integrative Brain Sciences at the Department of Biology Waseda University Japan, and is the President of International Federation of Comparative Endocrinology Societies (IFCES). Professor Tsutsui received his PhD from Graduate School of Science and Engineering Waseda University Japan in 1981. After post-doctoral training at Faculty of Science Hiroshima University, he was recruited as an assistant Professor at same university in 1991, and soon was promoted to associate professor in 1992 and full professor in 1996. Since 2006, Dr. Tsutsui is a professor at Department of Biology, Waseda University, Japan.
Prof. Tsutsui´s research area is neuroendocrinology and integrative biology of birds and other vertebrates including fish, amphibians, reptiles and mammals, especially in identification and functional analyses of novel neuropeptides and neurosteroids. Current research projects include 1) studies on syntheses and functions of neurosteroids in the brain, 2) and identification and functional analyses of novel neuropeptides. More specifically, these studies include 1a) Syntheses of steroids and identification of novel neurosteroids in vertebrate brain, 1b) Regulation of synaptic plasticity by neurosteroids and motor learning, 1c) Physiological variations and instinctive behavioral control of neurosteroids; 2a) Novel hypothalamic peptide that control the release of pituitary hormone, 2b) Gonadotropin releasing inhibitory peptide (hormone, GnIH), 2c) Growth hormone releasing peptide (fGRP), 2d) LPXRFa peptide family, 2e) Spawning-inducing-peptides : mechanisms of neural regulation of spawning.
Prof Tsutsui has published 216 original research articles, and 116 review articles in peer-reviewed journals, 51 review articles in peer-reviewed books, edited 5 books with a h-index: 61. Because of his scientific contributions, Prof. Tsutsui has received many national and international awards including Kobayashi Award from Japan Society for Comparative Endocrinology, Japan, 2016; Prize for Science and Technology, The Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, 2015, Bargmann-Scharrer Lectureship Award, International Federation of Comparative Endocrinology Societies (IFCES), 2013, Masao Ito Best Presentation Award, Society for Research on the Cerebellum, 2011 and many others.
Professor Tsutsui is an active and visible member of the international scientific community and serve on editorial boards and editors for many journals including as an associate editor for “Frontiers in Experimental Endocrinology”, "Frontiers in Neuroendocrine Science", “General and Comparative Endocrinology”,
“PeerJ”. He is also Editor-in-Chief, “Japanese Journal of Reproductive Endocrinology”. Prof Tsutsui is the President of the International Federation for the Societies of Comparative Endocrinology (IFSCE), the President of Asia and Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology, and the President of Japan Society for Avian Endocrinology.
