Dr. De-Shou Wang is a full professor and Dean of School of Life Sciences, Southwest University (SWU), Director of the Key Laboratory of Freshwater Fish Reproduction and Development (Ministry of education, P. R. of China). He received Outstanding Awards for Mid-Career Expert of Chongqing and Special allowance granted by the government of the State Council. He is a Council Member of International Society for Fish Endocrinology, Council Member of Chinese Zoological Society, Council Member of Chinese Comparative Endocrinology Society, Chairman of the Chongqing Zoological Society and Vice Chairman of Chinese Ichthyological Society.
Dr. Wang received his B. Sci. in 1985 and M. Sci. in 1988 from Department of Biology, Southwest China Normal University, received his Ph.D in 1996 from School of Life Sciences, Zhongshan University. He Worked as Teaching Assistant (88-91), Lecturer (91-93), Associate Professor (93-98), Full Professor (98-now) of SWU in School of Life Sciences, Southwest University (SWU). He once worked as postdoctoral fellow at Bar-Ilan University in Israel in 1999, A visiting scientist at Utrecht University in the Netherlands in 2000, a senior visiting scientist of Chinese University of Hongkong in 2001, JSPS postdoctoral fellow, SORST and CREST researcher, NIBB, Japan from 2001 to 2007.
Research interest of his group is sexual plasticity and sex control in fish, focusing on steroidogenesis and molecular mechanisms for fish sex determination and differentiation. In collaboration with Dr. CHK Cheng from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, his group is also the first to isolate two GHRs, two PRLRs and three IGFs from teleosts. He has given more than ten invited lectures in international symposiums. He published more than 80 SCI indexed articles with total impact factors over 200 and more than 2000 citations. He received the First Prize for Science and Technology Progress Award and Natural Science Awards from Chongqing Municipal Government in 1998 and 2011, respectively. He also has 5 invention patents.
