Dr. Wei-Hua Xu is a professor of School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University. He earned his B.S. from Zhejiang Agricultural University in 1982, M.S in 1986 from the Post-graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science, and Ph.D. in 1995 from the School of Agricultural Science, Nagoya University, Japan. He joined the Institute of Sericultural Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences as an assistant professor from 1986-1991. He established his own laboratory at University of Science and Technology of China as associate professor in 1995, and full professor in 2000. Since 2006, He joined the Sun Sat-Sen University.
His scientific expertise is in understanding the roles of neurohormones, such as insulin, TGF-β, PTTH, diapause hormone in insect development, especially in diapause, which is similar to dauer in C. elegans, and focusing on signal transduction mechanisms, transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression; lifespan extension in response to hypoxia and nutrient restriction. He has published over than 50 scientific articles on these topics.
Prof. Xu has served as the editorial board member for Journal of Insect Physiology, and Associate Editor for Acta Entomologica Sinica.
