Dr. Wensheng Li is a full professor of School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University, Director of Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center of Healthy Breeding in Important Economic Fish. She is a Council Member of Aquatic Biotechnology of the Chinese Aquatic Society, and a member of Scientific Committee of the Key Laboratory of Freshwater Fish Reproduction and Development (Ministry of Education). She was a receipt of The Outstanding Talents of New Century of the Ministry of Education, P.R. China and the "Thousand and Ten Projects" of the fifth batch of universities in Guangdong Province. She also won the Prize of Chinese Young Women Scientists, Guangdong DingYing Science and Technology Award and Guangdong Province Outstanding Women Award. She was awarded Guangdong Top Ten Female Innovation Scientific Research. She was also honored with the outstanding talent for agricultural scientific research by the Ministry of Agriculture, P.R.China, and her team was awarded the Innovation Research Team for Integrated Technology Development of Healthy Breeding in Important Economic Fish.
Dr. Li graduated from Department of Biology, Zhongshan University, with her B. Sci. in 1989 and M. Sci. in 1992, received her Ph.D in 1998 from School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University. She worked as Lecturer (1999-2001), Associate Professor (2002-2006), Full Professor (2007-now) in School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University. She once worked as Postdoctoral Fellow of Hong Kong University in 1999-2001, Senior Visiting Scholar of National Institute of Health, USA, in 2009.
Research interest of her group is growth, food intake and metabolism control in fish, focusing on molecular and endocrine mechanisms for the regulation of neuropeptides such as somatostatin, neuropeptide Y and etc., on the growth of teleosts. She published more than 50 SCI indexed articles with more than 400 citations. She received the First Prize for Science and Technology Progress Award of Higher Education from the Ministry of Education, P.R. China in 2006, the First Prize for Science and Technology Progress Award from Guangdong Province in 2007 and Natural Science Awards from the Ministry of Education, P.R. China in 2005, respectively. She also has 9 invention patents.
